This committee will examine policies that ensure the reliable production, generation, and transmission of the West’s fossil and renewable energy resources which are vital to the region’s economy and that maintain the environmental integrity of the West’s land, air, and water resources. The committee will collaborate with the Western Governors’ Association and the Western Interstate Energy Board to promote and support sustainable energy policies. It will also track and explore the impacts of world energy development on the West.

Energy & Public Lands 2006 Highlights: The committee reviewed the rising cost of electricity, Canadian energy resources, U.S. energy security and cutting-edge energy research conducted at the National Energy Renewable Laboratory.  Lawmakers also discussed the role of state legislatures in federal trusts and public lands.

Energy & Public Lands 2005 Highlights: The committee reviewed effects of increasing oil and natural gas demand worldwide on U.S. energy policy, the impact of global climate change on U.S. corporate energy and marketing strategies, and ways to utilize existing transmission lines and encourage the construction of new ones
